The San Diego-Imperial Chapter of the Healthcare Financial Management Association is a professional membership organization for individuals in financial management of healthcare institutions and related patient organizations. Our Chapter leaders are here to serve the members. As we embark on 2021-2022 HFMA year, I reflect on a speech my dear friend referenced to help me through personal and professional challenges:
“It is not the critic who counts; not the man who points out how the strong man stumbles, or where the doer of deeds could have done them better. The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena, whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood; who strives valiantly; who errs, who comes short again and again, because there is no effort without error and shortcoming; but who does actually strive to do the deeds; who knows great enthusiasms, the great devotions; who spends himself in a worthy cause; who at the best knows in the end the triumph of high achievement, and who at the worst, if he fails, at least fails while daring greatly, so that his place shall never be with those cold and timid souls who neither know victory nor defeat.” – Man in the Arena by Theodore Roosevelt
Healthcare industry is the brave man “in the arena” during the COVID-19 pandemic. While we figured out how to meet supply chain needs, move a significant portion of our workforce remote, create digital front doors, bill for telehealth services; we are still challenged with significant financial losses, staffing issues, security threats, changing rules, regulations, elevated reporting requirements.
This year, together, we will pivot and rebuild towards a bolder, brighter, better future! For our organizations, “better” means safe, enhanced digital patient experiences, productive remote workforces, innovative, efficient and effective business practices. For our communities, “better” means people who listen to one another, appreciate differences, and learn from each other. And for HFMA, “better” means an association that is vibrant, relevant, flexible, resourceful and accessible.
Your HFMA San Diego Imperial Chapter Board is fully committed to supporting you towards this “better” future. Please get to know your board members here. We revamped our website, redesigned our newsletter, expanded our social media footprint, added legislative updates, analyses, enhanced certification support, active social and networking events to our programs for the year. This year, we will embark on a regional roadshow visiting north, east, west, and south county providers. We will continue to offer monthly “lunch & learn webinars” and a robust calendar of hybrid virtual and in-person events.
